Not much happened this week to be honest, which isn’t necessarily a bad thing in a lot of cases. But there are a couple of things I’ll talk about, so let’s get to each of those.
Sports Stuff
My favorite NFL team, the Houston Texans, played the Pittsburgh Steelers in the first round of the NFL Playoffs last night. While I didn’t watch the game, I kept up with the score for most of the game. We, the Texans, won the game 30 – 6 advancing us on to the next round which we’ll play the New England Patriots in New England next weekend.
I was pretty confident that we could and would beat the Steelers and we did so pretty easily which is relieving. My co-workers at work won’t be happy. That’s because about 12 or so of them live in Pittsburgh oddly enough, including my bosses boss who was giving me a hard time last night prior to the game. Last nights win put us on a 10-game winning streak, which is currently the longest in the league and tied for the longest streak of the season by any team.
I’m not confident that we can beat the Patriots, especially on their home field, as we’ve always struggled there, but that was also back in the Tom Brady / Bill Belichick days. So I’m hoping things will be considerably different and we can advance to the AFC Championship game.
Work Related Stuff
Work has indeed slowed down and ticket numbers have dropped a good bit. What’s even better is, the customer call back queue has dropped big time, and that’s the most important part of things.
When I was going through the hiring process, I was told that our boss wanted us to average 6 – 7 tickets per hour, which isn’t bad and it’s not something they are strict about really. But with ticket counts so low and so many people on the team, it’s hard to get that for obvious reasons.
During the holidays, since ticket counts were way up, as in we went from 1,200 tickets a month to over 20,000 tickets in a 2-week period, that average was much more achievable. I was told this past week that I was averaging 12.62 tickets per hour, which is the highest anyone has ever done at any time. I managed at one point to do 300 tickets in a 2-day period and across the week starting the day after Christmas and ending on New Year’s, I set all sorts of records for ticket counts, both open and new tickets.
Not really mentioning this to be bragging, but it’s nice that I was able to prove myself since tomorrow is my 3-month anniversary at Skylight. I feel I’ve raised the bar and have really gotten the attention of my bosses which will lead to some good things in the near’ish future!
I also booked my flight for the company All-Feet as they call it. It’s where most of the company gets together and works together, has a bunch of meetings and discusses the future of the team and what we’re doing and all of that stuff. I’ll be in San Diego, California February 23rd – 27th.
However, it looks like the wife is really wanting to go as well, but she really can’t since I’ll be working every day from 8am – 4pm. But she’s going to fly in on Thursday, and then we’re going to stay until Monday. Assuming my boss allows me to have Saturday off, which I think she will. That way we can go see Chicano Park which is the number one thing the wife wants to see and experience as it’s been on her to-do list most of her life.
We’ll also only be about 30 minutes from the Mexico border, so we’re going to across the border as well since she’s Hispanic, as this means a lot to her since she’s never been to or in Mexico. Should be a super fun trip.
Not to mention we are only 8 blocks from the beach as well, so we’ll definitely be checking that out a bit. Not sure what the temps will be like, so swimming might not be a thing, but we’ll at least get to see the Pacific Ocean, which for her will be her first time ever.
What Video Games I’m Playing
I’m still playing Arc Raiders, though I haven’t played in a little over a week, and I picked up PGA Tour 2K25 which is pretty fun. But a few days ago when I went to update Fortnite, I noticed a game called Kaku: Ancient Seal, and the graphics on the advertisement just really grabbed my attention. It was only $24.99 on Epic Games, but I didn’t buy it. Instead, I went over to Steam to pull it up there, and guess what? It was on sale for just $14.99 so I grabbed it instantly.
What is Kaku: Ancient Seal you ask? An Open world Action adventure combining exploration with puzzles and dynamic combat. Go on a journey across a sprawling continent as Kaku, a boy tasked to restore balance to the land. Brave the four elemental regions with the help of Piggy, his powerful companion and conquer their lords.
I’m probably about 10-hours into the game and not even completed the first of four main areas on the map. In fact, I’m currently stuck on the first boss which is actually kind of tough. I’ve gotten close to beating her, but then I make simple mistakes. Hoping that changes today or tomorrow.
Personal Life
The wife and I tried a brand new to Winston Salem, NC restaurant called Cozumel. They serve Mexican food and seafood mostly. It’s only been open a few days. They are known for having the largest margaritas in Winston Salem. However, because they just opened, they don’t have their liquor license yet, so we didn’t get to try one or anything else. Sadly, their carbonation machine for soft drinks was down as well so the wife couldn’t even get a Diet Coke with her meal. She was pretty frustrated and ended up drinking water which she’s not really a fan of, especially with a meal.
The service started off horrible, but then another waitress picked us up and started waiting on us and she was decently good. Service definitely turned around quite a bit. I think the guy who started waiting on us was brand new to waiting tables in general, so I didn’t say too much.
The food itself was damn good. I got some beef nachos with sour cream, lettuce, melted cheese and guacamole. Definitely something I’d get again. The wife got a stuffed poblano pepper topped with steak fajita meat. Hers was really good as well.
It’s a place we definitely want to go back to and we’re hoping the experience especially as far as the service is much better. Especially since the food was really good.
Wrapping It Up
I think that’s about it for this weeks Weekly Notes, or as I call them, Cliff’s Notes. Not sure what this week will bring, but we shall see and hopefully the work week at least will go nice and smooth and not be so busy.
