I was asked about three weeks or so ago by CyberSecKyle as to why I hadn’t posted or been active on Mastodon for about two weeks at the time. This was in our Discord that we still run and own, which is still called AllThingsTech. Feel free to click that link and join us, as we’d certainly love to have you!
Now that it’s been a bit over a month of not being very active, I decided it was time to write about and give a little update as to why. It’s not a long drawn out story or anything like that to be honest. It’s actually very simple and to the point.
So why haven’t I been active lately on Mastodon? Simply because I wanted a break from posting and interacting on social media and Mastodon happens to be the only social media platform I really use other than Discord. At the time, I hadn’t really decided to “take a break” so to speak. It just kind of happened and with each passing day it felt like the thing to be doing. It wasn’t planned, with an exact date of when I’d be coming back or anything similar.
I was still semi-active in commenting on posts, but those were very few and far between. I however didn’t post anything new and to be honest, it was something that I realized I had been needing for a while and it felt good.
I lurked and stayed in the background and was constantly viewing Mastodon, just not active. Like I said, I commented here and there but only with specific people whom I really consider those to be the ones I know don’t and won’t post any crazy stuff.
So the question now is, when will I be coming back, or even will I be coming back? I guess I kind of have to say that when this post publishes, which will be at 9am EST today(December 31st, 2025), it will post to Mastodon which means I’m back, right?
See, as I stated above, this isn’t some long drawn out reason as to why I wasn’t active, it wasn’t because of too much drama online, though that is always a thing, it wasn’t because I was burned out or anything similar. I just wanted to step away. Plus, with me just recently starting at Skylight Calendar, we knew that the holidays would be our busiest time of the year, and let me tell you, they weren’t joking. The last several days have been ABSOLUTELY CRAZY to say the very least.
So me taking a break from Mastodon kind of went along with that as well, as I wanted to fully focus on my job since again, I did just start 2 1/2 months ago and I wanted to allow this busy time for me to really prove myself to my boss(es). Something I feel I have actually accomplished, but that’s for an entirely different post all together in the future, hopefully.
For now, you should see more active on Mastodon starting later today, or most likely tomorrow, as I’ll just start the new year being active again. And I certainly hope to see all of you there!
