Last week’s Weekly Notes post went pretty well to be honest. A bit better than I expected actually. Thank you to everyone who took a look and actually read it, or at least pretended to read it. For week two, it’s a bit more than a week because I wanted get my thoughts on my new job at Skylight after the first day or two of working there. So yeah, let’s go ahead and dive in and discuss this past week or so.

Skylight – My First Couple Of Days…

My first day at Skylight was on Tuesday October 14th. Usually would have been a Monday, but Monday was a holiday here in the US, so I chose to start the day after that.

As you can imagine, the first couple of days was filled with meetings. HR on-boarding, welcome meeting with my boss, and then some other meetings for learning ZenDesk(which I kind of already know a bit of) and similar other stuff.

The day started with a meeting that was just myself and my immediate boss. Super fun meeting as she’s such a great human and I can tell she’s going to be an amazing boss. She just went over a bunch of things that she wanted me to focus on Wednesday – Saturday as she was going to be out of town. Our meeting was supposed to be 1 1/2 hours but we got everything done in about an hour, including just general conversation and some great laughs.

After she got done, she made a “welcome/introduction” post about me in Slack, and my fellow Concierge Team members welcomed me with open arms. They immediately scheduled 30 minute meetings with me so we could get to know each other and just hang and chat for a bit. I was pretty excited about that.

Yesterday I had those meetings with several of them and let me tell you, what an amazing fun time those meetings were. I feel so connected to my team and I really feel as if I’m part of the family. That’s important in the work place for sure and I’m super glad it’s this way already.

Skylight uses Slack for all communication which I’m so glad is the case. I missed Slack so much as my previous job used Microsoft Teams and I absolutely hated it. Lots of other great conversations have been had via Slack the last couple of days, including of course with my former boss of nine years at Nova/Branch.

I’m excited to see what the next three days bring to finish out my first week, but if they are anything like the first two, then I know it’ll be good times!

Gaming Stuff

Not much has changed since the post last week. I’m still playing Borderlands 4 and still very much really enjoying it. I reached level 48 yesterday morning as I played for a couple of hours before work like I normally do. Getting ever so close to level 50, which I’m excited to finally achieve. If I had more time to play I would get there faster. But unfortunately that’s just not the case.

I’m so ready for Outer World’s 2 to be released on October 29th. I’ll definitely take a break from Borderlands 4 and will play OW2 until it’s completed. Will you be playing Outer World’s 2 by chance?

General Life Stuff

Not much else really going on worth talking about. The wife and I did go to Whataburger here in Winston Salem for the second time since they opened on October 6th. It’s so nice to have a WAB in the same city which I live in, as that has happened since 2007 because we didn’t have them in Rome, GA for the 15 years I lived there and didn’t have them here until this year. I believe we’re likely going back this weekend as well when we both have the day off.

Blogging

I managed to get three reviews published this week. A couple of them were Redragon keyboards and the other was the HOZO NeoBlade. You can view them on the site via the links below.

Redragon Behemoth K724 Pro Keyboard

HOZO Design NeoBlade Wireless Ultrasonic Cutter

Redragon Garen K656 Pro Keyboard

I still have one more review from Redragon I need to get done, which I’ll likely get done some time this weekend, so look for that soon and I’ll of course mention it in next week’s Weekly Notes..

Random Thoughts

Since last week when I did the first Weekly Notes, it’s got me to thinking about wanting something more of an original name. I know several people out there use the term “Weekly Notes” for their version of these posts, and that’s fine. They even use the hashtag , which I could certainly still do. But I’d like something more original, different and unique if at all possible.

I was thinking of the obvious “Cliff Notes”, but is that really what I want or should use at this point? I’m open for suggestions and will put something out on Mastodon about this as well to generate some ideas of a name that just catches me more. If you have any ideas or suggestions, feel free to drop them in the comments section below!
